Flight From Santorini to Crete

Hi,

I loved your site.

It's terrific, you have great information.

I'll be visiting Crete this summer with my family and we can't seem to find a flight that leaves on the 27th July from Santorini?

Are there any? If not are there any ferries that leave in the morning or early afternoon?

We were hoping to leave before evening, so as not to miss out on the whole day in Crete.

Options from Santorini to Heraklion in Crete

The flights from Santorini to Heraklion go via Athens from the following airlines:

Olympic Airlines - and they are still really quick and affordable.

Aegean Airlines - there are 11 flights on the day you need.

You can fly on this route, departing as early as 6.40 am and getting to Heraklion about 11 am.

Alternatively you can phone or email the following local Crete airlines

Sky Express

Minoan Air,

and ask them specifically about that date. Their schedules do not show them flying that route, but it is very early in the year and they may not have their full schedules up on the internet yet.

The ferries running on the route from Santorini to Crete are:

Sea Jets. Their ferry leaves at 5.20 am in the afternoon, arriving in Heraklion at 6.55 pm.

Hellenic Seaways. Their ferry leaves at 5.30 pm in the afternoon and arrives into Heraklion around 7.15 pm.

So you can stay in a hotel (the port is just minutes from good hotels) and then see Heraklion and the sights on the next day. This is home to the Archaeological Museum, only 5 km from the Palace of Knossos and full of history and a good modern vibe. Sit at the cafes around the Liondaria Fountain, stroll in the markets on 1866 street and perhaps try seafood lunch down by the old port, looking over the fortress. Heraklion is a busy capital town with plenty to see

Alternatively, fly Athens to Crete, then take the ferry to Santorini, then travel forwards from Santorini, this might suit your schedule better.

Thank you so much for your response. We took your advice and switched our stay around, making it easier for getting ferries and flights.

Once again, thank you so much for all the information you sent me, I'm still going through it all and we purchased your mini-guides on visiting Crete east and west. They are GREAT!
