Visit Samaria Gorge - the prized national forest of Crete which is known as the longest and most beautiful gorge in Europe. Begin the 16 km (11 mile) hike at the Omalos Plateau, cross the White Mountains and finish at the village of Agia Roumeli, located on the south coast. Take a boat from Agia Roumeli to the village of Chora Sfakion and a bus back to your accommodation. Available from most locations in Crete, early start and late finish.

This tour is seasonal - operating from May to October only.

Getting Here

Knossos Palace is located in the very centre of Crete just 5 km from Heraklion town. The closest airport is Heraklion Airport HER.

If you plan to visit Samaria and Balos Lagoon, you may wish to arrive via Chania Airport CHQ and stay in the west of the island.

The wine and olive oil tour departs from the Rethymnon region - use Chania or Heraklion airport to visit Rethymno town and region.

If you plan to visit Spinalonga Island you may wish to arrive via Heraklion Airport and stay in the east of the island, near Agios Nikolaos, Elounda or Ierapetra.

Take a 1 hour flight from Athens to Heraklion with Aegean Airlines or Olympic Air, with many flights available per day.

Or take a 9.5 hour overnight ferry from Pireaus port of Athens to Heraklion port.
