Calm sea and sandy beach on north coast, Chania?

by Fran
(UK)

Travel plan first half of June.

Hello, I see you have a lot of useful information. On your website. I saw your video of Chania Beach and I was a bit surprised at how windy it looked. I have two young children and I myself don't like swimming in rough or wavy seas.

Please can you advise on the calmest sandy beaches in North Crete in the Chania area, I'd really like to visit the town and not be too far from it - ideally walking distance on q quiet route or cheap bus ride - and needs to be accessible by bus.

I would also love to visit Elafonisi and maybe stay, is there a coach or shared transport to there please? Can you tell me roughly how much to get a taxi from Chania area to Elafonisi please?

I'm trying to decide which resort hotel with pool to choose! I'm on a tight budget.

Many thanks,

Chania Beaches for Family
by: Katia, Anastasi, Apostoli

Yiasas Fran,

Thank you for writing to We Love Crete. Σας ευχαριστούμε που επικοινωνήσατε Αγαπάμε την Κρήτη.

We are not sure which video of which beach you are referring to near Chania. Yes, sometimes in August the wind blows a lot. In June you should be fine.
Any of the beaches accessible by bus near Chania on this page will suit you and your family. Take the local blue buses.

Beaches Close to Chania Town

On all of these beaches you will find budget hotels with pools.

Including Agia Marina Beach

Or Maleme Beach

There is a local bus to Elafonisi which is the cheapest way to get there. Leave early and make a day of it. As it is a nature reserve, it is undeveloped, which is how we want to keep it, therefore there is no accommodation there.

There are also day tours from Chania to Elafonisi - but as you are on a budget you do not need to take these.

More information here

The taxi from Chania to Elafonisi should cost about 95 Euro.

Book with Crete Cab here

But the bus will be cheapest - see KTEL bus info here.
