Ferries to Crete from Turkey - many people ask us their holiday questions and we are more than happy to help.
Hi, I'm travelling to Crete next month and I was just wondering if there are any ferries from Kusadasi in Turkey to Crete in Greece? If so how much is it and how long is the journey?
Katie, Ireland
Hi Katie, there are no direct ferries from Turkey to Crete Greece, but lots of easy connections.
Most Turkish ports have ferry connections with their corresponding Greek port in the Dodecanese. The port opposite Kusadasi is called Vathi and it is on the island of Samos.
Ferries to Crete from Turkey
There are many ferries in the Dodecanese to take you south to Rhodes and then there is a ferry direct from Rhodes to Crete. Alternatively, you could sail via Mykonos, Santorini, Kos or Rhodes. It all depends on what islands you might want to explore on your way.
Kusadasi to Samos ferry details:
Ferries to Crete from Turkey
From Samos via Mykonos
Via Kos
Via Rhodes
Any
travel agent near each harbour should be able to sell you tickets for
these ferries, but be careful in August because it is peak time they may
be booked out.
Always talk to the locals because the weather can change departure times and in summer there are always extra ferries.
Flight Options
Another
option is to fly from Samos to Rhodes (Olympic Airways 1 hour) and
Rhodes to Crete (Sky Express 1 hour), which would not be as adventurous,
but much quicker and easier.
Ferries to Crete from Turkey - many of the routes from Turkey to Crete will take you to Rhodes.
We highly recommend a visit to this beautiful island. More information about Rhodes here and see our tips for accommodation in the old town below. The old town is the most beautiful part of Rhodes town and is close to the ferry port.
In
our selections we have focused on guesthouses in the old town, because
we strongly believe it is one of the most beautiful towns on the
Mediterranean. The medieval town is a UNESCO World heritage site, still
vibrant and alive with life. Famous for the Colossus of Rhodes, which
was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, this port and
township has a million stories to tell.
The Avalon Boutique Hotel is located in the old town of Rhodes. With only six suites, it showcases the character of the medieval building with all modern conveniences. The eclectic mix of styles hints at the modern stylistic of Rhodes itself, which is a cheeky mix of all styles through the ages with a seemingly scant regard for rules.
The Avalon provides a luxurious and elegant experience within the cobbled streets.
Avalon Boutique Hotel is at 9 Haritos Street adjacent to the distinctive Knights Street, a skip away from the Grand Masters Palace and opposite the Spanish Inn.
Located on a high point of the old town of Rhodes in a narrow lane way close to the old town walls is the Spirit of the Knights Boutique Hotel. This architecturally designed, small guesthouse is just minutes away from the Grand Masters Palace, shops, bars, cafes and restaurants yet in a quiet lane away from the hustle and bustle.
A good budget option within the walls of the Old Town of Rhodes is Mango Rooms, above a cafe with internet, on the very pretty and leafy Dorieos Square.
This hotel it is good value, clean and convenient. Mango Rooms
are open all year long, there is a roof top balcony with lovely views over the
plateia and rooftops of the old zone, which has a story at every turn.
Ferries to Crete from Turkey - Κάρπαθος is a large and rugged island to the east of Kriti. This is also a good island to visit on the way from Turkey to Crete.
More about Karpathos here and our tip for accommodation is below.
Gorgona Blue Apartments in Karpathos are set back from the harbour with a wonderful view of karpathos Town and the sea. Beautifully presented with very reasonable rates, the name means 'Mermaid'.
