Our friend Andrew has written to us about his holiday to eastern Crete.
Lasithi Greece has long held a fascination for me. This summer I decided to spend a week in Lasithi, the easternmost area of Crete.
Although Lasithi beaches are not so popular as beaches of west and south Crete, I found them really stunning; the unique Vai beach with its luscious palm forest, Istro with its picturesque surroundings, the beach of Elounda overlooking Spinalonga Island and the exotic Chrissi or Golden Beach.
Here I present seven beaches in Lasithi, which I visited during my one-week stay in Lasithi. The most organised beaches are located on the northern coast, while the south side is still more isolated.
Our friend Manuel at Kissamos News has written with an introduction to their service - if you are visiting West Crete - get in touch and see what's happening and perhaps you can participate in an authentic local experience. How about grape stomping? Coming up in Koutoufiana Sep 28.
KissamosNews.com is a website with information about events in Kissamos area and West Crete.
There are many traditional festivals, music, cultural events and more for all the residents and tourists who flock to West Crete in the summer. They come to visit the famous beaches of Balos, Elafonissi and Falasarna and to explore this side of Crete and its outstanding beauty.
We list public events mostly for visitors to Kissamos area, but also for foreign residents who don't speak Greek and would still like to get out. We hope to make visitors closer to the very welcoming spirit of Crete and its people.
We are only a small team, all volunteers, and we try to cover all public events like Cretan nights, concerts, theatre, exhibitions, organised walks, and everything else really, as long as it's relevant and usually local.
We strive to have up-to-date information. Many of us are also involved with community activities, like beach cleaning, conservation and local walks.
We are also very open to suggestions, information about things that we might have missed, to new contributors and to all feedback in general, so if you have something to say just write to us.
