Brindisi to Crete

by Kamala
(USA)

I'll be taking a ferry from Brindisi to Patra. Is there a flight from Patra to Crete? Or else is there a ferry from Brindisi to Piraeus and and then a ferry from Piraeus to Crete? If so, is that the best way to go, and how long would that ferry take?

Getting to Crete from Italy

Yes, there are lots of ferries making the crossing from Brindisi in Italy to Patras in Greece, the crossing takes about 13.5 hours.

There are no direct flights from Patras to Crete, you would have options to continue from Patras as follows:
• Patras to Athens by rail then ferry or flight to Crete
• Patras to Athens by coach then ferry or flight to Crete
• Patras to Gythion in Peloponnese by coach then ferry to Kythera and Crete (this would not be the quickest but would be an interesting journey)

The flight from Athens to Crete takes about 1 hour, there are many flights per day by Olympic and Aegean Airlines.

The ferry from port of Pireus in Athens to Heraklion in Crete takes 7-9 hours and there are several sailings with Minoan or ANEK Lines per week. You could also sail from Pireaus to Chania.

Hi, I would like to know how many days in a week, I can reach Heraklion or Chania, from Karpathos, by ferry on June. Thanks. Ana

Such a nice trip!

Yes, we did it, too: after one week on Karpathos we took the ferry boat to Crete, but we left the boat in Sitia. It was rather 'exciting' to watch every thing in the harbours, the big trucks, ranking with stop and go to come into the large belly of the Ferry-boat, the shouting and whistling boatmen - it was like a big spectacle.

And as the Ferry boat also stops in the harbour of the small island of Kassos to load and to unload, we have had this spectacle twice! I would not like to miss this memory! Have a nice journey and enjoy it, also your stay on Karpathos and on Crete!

Best wishes

June is spring just coming into summer - this means there should be at least 2 departures per week - the trip takes about 8 hours.
