Plakias or Chania 4 Nights in Crete?

by Ziv
(Israel)

Hello,

I would like to hear your advice about what part or Crete it's better to stay for 4 nights.

My preference is Plakias area or beaches in Chania. Which area has more beautiful beaches to relax and enjoy the sun and the turquoise water?

Of course, which beach you’ll recommend me to stay in?

Thank you,
Ziv

Chania Choice of Experiences

Hi Ziv,

Another of our visitors had the same question, see their question and our answer here...

Perhaps on the north coast of Chania you will be able to enjoy a more diverse range of experiences than if you simply went to Plakias on the south coast.

In Plakias you would go, relax on the beach and enjoy the beauty, the turquoise waters and nice sand, some tavernas and plenty of wide open spaces and fresh air. For four days this is ideal. In Plakias stay at Plakias Suites because they are just 50 metres from the water, or Akti Damnioni pension, on a smaller quieter beach just next to Plakias.

Of course, from Plakias it is very easy to take a day trip into Rethymnon town and enjoy the historic old zone, great shopping and tavernas by the old harbour.

If you stay in Chania, you could visit beautiful beaches, visit the characteristic old town of Chania with museums, tavernas, cafes, boutiques and great shopping. You could also take a tour with pick up from your hotel for the Samaria Gorge, or Balos Lagoon. Along the coast and in Chania you will find nightclubs, Cretan music venues and bars.

If you choose a beach on the north coast of Chania you can hire a car or take the local bus to extraordinary beaches such as Falassarna or Elafonisi.

Accommodation

If you stay in Chania town itself, we suggest the Madonna Studios because of their location within the walls of the old town and great service. If you stay on a beach near Chania, you could choose Plaka, Kalyves, Maleme or Agia Marina. In Kalyves we suggest the Apokoros Hotel, because we know you will get looked after by the friendly family that run it. In Maleme we suggest the budget Summer Lodge, again it is family-run by locals and has very cheap rates.

If you want to choose a villa we suggest Villa Hecktor near Plaka, because of its wonderful views and great location near beaches and Chania town.
