Crete Ferries - from Santorini & to Fethiye

by Simone
(Australia)

Hello, my fiance and I will would like to go to Crete after a few days in Santorini. Can you please advise the best way to get to Crete from Santorini?

After Crete we would like to travel onto Fethiye, Turkey. Can you get ferries from Crete to Fethiye and how long does it take?

Would it be best to go to Rhodes from Crete and if so, how long will this take and is it easy to do? Thanks!!

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Simone

Ferries Santorini, Crete, Rhodes and Fethiye

Yiasas Simone,

You are going to have a great trip! Santorini is so beautiful! Well of course, so is Crete...and the old town of Rhodes is magical.

From Santorini to Crete
There are many different ferries and fast catamarans that can take you from Thira (Santorini) to Heraklion in Crete. In high season you can also get to Rethymnon in Crete.

Example: 2015 Details
Thira to Heraklion depart 17.20 arrive 19.00 €60
Thira to Rethymnon depart 17.40 arrive 20.00 €65

There are more services in high season than low season. You can travel with Seajets, Hellenic Seaways or GA Ferries on these routes.

See good info on Santorini and Santorini to Crete...

From Crete to Rhodes
From Crete to Rhodes you can fly or take the ferry. Again, there are more ferry services in high season. This is quite a long way and the ferry stops at three ports alongs the way. The ferry journey takes 12-14 hours. The flight takes about one hour direct. There is always the option to fly Heraklion to Athens, then Athens to Rhodes, with flying times of about 1 hour for each trip, even with stopover time, this can be done in a morning or an afternoon.

You can travel with Lane Lines or ANEK Lines on this route. See more information about getting to Rhodes from Crete here...

We have Rhodes accommodation suggestions here... we always say it is best to stay within the walls of the old town and soak up the atmosphere. The old town is only 10 minutes walk from the port.

Rhodes to Fethiye Ferries
There are plenty of ferries crossing from Rhodes to Fethiye, generally the ferries depart at 4.30 in the afternoon and the trip takes about one and a half hours... A couple of days a week there are services that depart at 8.30am from Rhodes, the cost is around €50 per adult one way.

Our personal suggestions for accommodation in Heraklion are here...

Kalo Taxidi! Bon Voyage!
